How to upload an HTML file to weebly site?

I have read posts in the community. I have read articles. I have watched videos. Yet, I am still unsuccessful uploading an HTML file to my weebly site. For Google Search Console, I am supposed to download the file given to me and upload it to my website. But verfication is always "unsuccessful."

This is what I have done in both Explorer and Chrome.

1. Themes..Edit HTML...Assets...Add file

2. Drag embed code to home page, Copy the html given to me, publish. 

Can you please help me? What am I doing wrong?

Hi @frenchhobbs! Welcome to the Community.

Instead of using the HTML file method, choose the meta tag verification method instead. Copy the meta tag code from Google, then go to Settings > SEO within the website editor and paste the meta tag into the Header Code field. Publish your site after that and then Google should be able to see the tag.

Thank you for your response. This next question shows my novice level and lack of understanding with all this analytics and coding stuff, so please be patient...

I guess I don't know where to find the meta tag code nor what it is supposed to look like. Would you mind providing some assistance with that?

Hold on a second. My HTML tag was successfully verified by Google. But my HTML file was not. And my understanding is that I canNOT upload an HTML file on Weebly. Thus, I don't need to worry about the HTML file. I'm good to go since my tag was verified. Correct?
