How do I debug my CSV file ?

I followed the instructions on the page but the documentation is a bit sparse.

I manually created a product, exported out the CSV, and created duplicate rows for the number of products I wanted to create.

However uploading the CSV rejects my request because it states I need a product ID and product name to be included for each row.

This information has been included. Each row is practically a carbon copy of the original export minus minor changes such as name, price, and such.

I assigned a new product ID for each new product, all of the variations carry the same product ID (As shown from the export CSV).

My suspicion is that I created the parent SKU manually, and each variation SKU manually as well. I see the product export CSV only includes the variation SKUs and the parent sku is not in the CSV. Does this mean I have to create each parent SKU manually as well?

Sorry to hear you've had some trouble, @luckyfifty7

Are you editing your CSV directly, or did you import it into something Google Sheets to make it easier to edit?

Hi Adam,

I'm not sure what you mean by editing directly.

I downloaded the CSV from the link provided in my email and then opened it in excel to create and save the new file.

I've just copy-pasted the file into a google sheet in order to share it:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1UFPezHTYCf0pD5Ck80wmWzvrtJ4-TgOqYfmIOpBqbow/edit?usp=sharing

The first sheet called 'New' are the products I am attempting to add, whiel the other sheet labeled 'Orig' is the file that was exported out to me from Weebly.

I tested using the CSV export of your "new" tab and was able to import it.  On a new store with no products, it gave me a warning that it would make new products since there were no existing products with "2" or "3" as the product ID, which is expected.

After the import completed I had two products in my test store with everything listed in your CSV.

Are you seeing the same warning or something else? If you already have products with those IDs, it might not work and give other warnings/errors.

Hi Adam,

I your method. I copied the contents of the google spreadsheet into a new csv file, and the import went through.

However, attempting to use the original csv file with the same information caused the same error stating that the 'Product ID' and 'Product Name' were missing and needed to be provided for all rows.

I'm not sure why that is the case, I tried to resave the original excel file again into a new file and still received the same problem, so between pasting it and copying it back from a google spreadsheet, the error seems to disappear and the data is correctly read.

I can use this method for the time being.

Another question I have since you are already in the thread, is there a way to upload multiple photos to one product? I uploaded multiple images to the product that I manually created, however on export, I see only 1 image URL is included in the csv file.

Not a problem. Right now, only one photo is included with exports and only one can be used on import.

Hi,

Is it always true that we can't import several pictures for the same product with the import by CSV ?

Thanks

Ok, so you've been trying to add the new products onto the CSV to upload with your updates. If you limit the CSV to just updating your existing products does it work?

Hi Adam,

I'm having big trouble importing a product CSV file. I'm getting the same error message as soon as I press the import button (once the platform notifies the file is ready):

"We could not process your CSV

All rows must have a name or product ID provided"

I've tried 1) the Export -> Edit -> Import method, 2) creating my own CSV file following the instructions (https://hc.weebly.com/hc/en-us/articles/227130587), 3) copy - paste data from one file into a new file... but nothing! Still stuck with the same problem.

Please help!

Thank you

Hello jvanz! Just to clarify, is there any trouble uploading the unaltered CSV?

Hello, I'm also having this issue with the same error message, both on the original csv file and on a version I've tried to perfect in excel, any suggestions?

thank you

Are you trying to add new products or just update existing products, @pearl1?

I have about 10 of my own existing products but am now selling a branded product and have been given the company's csv document to upload their products as well.
