Adding category links in Header navigation

I have a Shop by Category menu in my navigation/header for one set of categories (types of jewelry) and I am having no luck trying to add navigation for additional categories.

I am trying to add "Shop by metal" and "Shop by gemstone". I tried adding these as both main navigation links (beside "Shop by Category" and as submenu items under "Shop by category." Neither is working.

  • The new category links are visible, and working, on my Shop All page.
  • I can add the old categories to a new menu, but cannot add the new categories to either new or existing menus.
  • I've set up the new categories in my Item Library.
  • I've added some items to the categories.
  • I've successfully added the words "Shop my metal" to my nav bar. I created "shop by metal" as a nav link, and was able to include a link to a page where I talk about the metals I use, but the actual links to the new category pages will not show up in my nav bar no matter what I do.

Hmm. This may be an issue with the categories in Weebly not syncing to Square.

Thanks for your post, @RockNess. Categories in Square are different than those for your Square Online Store, so they don't sync over. That said, this sounds like it's all about categories you've made in your Square Online Store. Your site looks different than you described - did you make additional changes after posting?

@Adam I've temporarily turned off categories on my Shop All page, while I try to work through this problem and to get all my items tagged with the added categories (which is a lot of effort that I don't want to waste if the navigation is not going to work.) Is that what you mean about the site looking different?

The navigation on my site looks like photo #1 (both on the actual website and when I preview from within the Weebly app).

But the way it looks in my site editor is screen shot 2. This is what the published version looks like.

Screen shot 3 is how I want to arrange the nav links (on the left) but as you can see looking in the header, that is not what is actually showing up. This version is not published, because it looks horrible.

By the way, I have an open support ticket dating back to 4/23 about many of my emails not coming to the @rocknesssjewelry.com email address I have registered with Square--notifications of orders go to my old email Gmail address. The last communication from support was 4/29 telling me I was wrong and that none of my emails are going to the old address (they are) and that they are all going to my new address (they aren't). The notification email that told me you had posted a reply to this post came to my old address.

I am very close to migrating my site to another platform. That's why I am not taking the time to tag all my jewelry with the added categories until I find out whether this issue is going to be something I can resolve. I posted this here because it looked to me like making my troubles public was the best way to get a response. It would appear I was right, since the email to support that I sent about the navigation issue before I posted is still gathering dust with no replies.

Ok, I see what you mean. I moved your navigation links in the website editor match your third screenshot, but nothing happens with the actual navigation itself. I checked with our team and there's a bug ticket open with our engineers about this. Hopefully they should have this fixed soon!

I am having this problem, or very similar. From the square store editor I have added 2 categories to navigation from the homepage header nav panel. However I seem to be unable to add a 3rd cat. I have added a simple page made to look like a category easily, but it creates a design mismatch with the 1st 2 categories. If you sort this out please let me know. I am unpublished at this time.  Thanks.

When you say you can't add another category link, is the category option greyed out or does the category you want to add not show as an option?

i am having this exact issue. "category page" is not showing up as an option when adding link to navigation menu. my only options are standard page, external page, item page or appointments.

Are you using the Order Online page template, @michaelhayes? If you do then the option to use category pages is disabled. If you change your Order Online page to a Shop All page the option will be there again. To do that, go to your Order Online page in the editor, then click on the gear icon on the top right. There will be a Switch Layout option which has the Shop All type as a choice.

I'm sorry but HOW do you do this?! My categories were showing up just fine a couple of weeks ago and now NOTHING when I go to my Navigation in the my header. I am ready to jump to another platform as well. Just when things are running correct something changes, zero communication and missed sales. VERY frustrating.

Hi @cherman47 I'm sorry for the frustration. It looks like you have categories listed in your navigation. Were you able to contact support to resolve this?

Side note, when will the tie dye masks be back in stock?

What category are you trying to show? This is what I see when I open the site:

If you want to contact the ecom support team you can reach them by opening the Weebly help center link

Hi @Adam @Bernadette  I have successfully added Categories and Subcategories to my Header Navigation in the past, yet now I am trying to add another but when I do, the "Link to" drop-down menu no longer includes the option for "Category page".

I can edit previous Category navigation links and can see clearly they are referred to as Category Pages, but the option is no longer available when trying to add more.

Incredibly frustrating and I can't wrap my head around it.

@Bernadette @Adam

Website is shop-amulet.com

And regarding another suggestion I saw, my site is not in "Order Online" mode.

Try doing the following, @amsp:

1. Click on the pages dropdown, click the button to add a page, then choose the page option

2. Choose Shop and make sure it's select on "shop all". Uncheck the option to add it to your navigation (unless you want it there)

3. Once that page has been added, add another page and you should see categories as an option.

The shop all page needs to exist in order to add category pages, though you don't have to have it in your navigation.

That worked, thank you @Adam !

I had removed the Shop All function a couple days ago!

Hi @elsieelle What is the name of your site, and what happens when you try to add a new category to navigation?

Hi, I figured it out based on someone else's fix. Shop All has to be implemented first (doesn't have to be linked on navigation though). Once I clicked "SHOP ALL" to be implemented though, I could add categories to my navigation bar again. Thank you!
