uploading files to site

How do you upload filess to your site?  I do not see any info on this except troubleshooting.  Thanks.

Hi @SuSu,

It depends a little on what you want to do with the files.

If they are for people to download, you can choose 'File' under the Media heading in the Build page. Or if you want them to click some text to download the file you can highlight the text in the text/title boxes and click the link button immediately above the text field. There is also an option to link buttons to files too, and a number of other items.

If you want to use the files in a custom/embedded HTML window then you'll need to upload them via Theme>Edit HTML/CSS> and then click on the '+' adjacent to the work ASSETS. To make reference to them from within the custom HTML window or external links...the URL of those files is then usually something like:

http://mySiteName.weebly.com/files/theme/myFileName.ext

changing the blue text to suit your circumstance.

Let me know if this helps or you still require guidance.

Cheers, Mark

This is VERY promising, but I can't get it to work.  I've uploaded a file with the edit-the-theme process and called it Interior Trim Panels - Regular Cab.  But Weebly shows it as Interiortrimpanels-regularcab in my theme.

However, I can't get the URL to work from outside.  Should I be able to access http://garysgaragemahal.weebly.com/files/theme/interiortrimpanels-regularcab.pdf from a browser?  I get "This page isn't working."

And, when I embed that url using an iframe it doesn't work either.  I'm sure I'm doing something wrong.

I don't see a file called that in your theme, although I do see a test.pdf with the custom theme used by your main site:

http://www.garysgaragemahal.com/files/theme/test.pdf

That one works for me!

If you're going to upload a lot of PDFs I would use folders within the Asset folder so it isn't too crazy to manage.

Adam!  You are THE MAN!  Thanks!  I needed the URL and couldn't figure out the right one.  What you gave me works perfectly.

What I'm trying to do is to get Google to crawl & index my pdf's.  Won't do it when they are on my site via a link.  Perhaps will when they are truly on the Weebly site.

And, if I do decide to upload a number of files I will use folders.  Thanks.  This is really just in the testing phase, but if it gets Google to crawl it then I've gotta do something.

Awesome! If those are linked anywhere from your site then Google will definitely crawl and index them.
