Help wth Password Protection

We recently upgraded our site (issdar.org) so that we could add a password-protected Member Login to the home page. What I want to do is have the Member Login go to a page that explains what to do if someone needs assistance logging in, and there is a "click here" to actually go to the password-protected page. Except, it goes to the page without asking for the site password.

When I first set it up I simply had the Member Home page password protected, and the link on the home page directed to that and required the password. But now that I want to add another page in between, it's not asking for the password.

Help! And thank you!

Hi @MooseTrax16,

have you set the 'Visibility'of the page to be 'Site Password' or 'Members' as you require?

Click on Pages>Visibility and choose the from the drop down list.

Pages that are password protected should have a padlock icon in the page list: e.g.,

Please let me know if this is not helping.

I have done that. The page shows with the lock:

Have you re-published since turning that on, @MooseTrax16?

Hi @MooseTrax16,

Once you have logged in, it's global across the whole site - you don't usually need to log in again to see other protected pages. I'm hoping that you're not seeing the login screen because you're effectively already logged in.

Can you try accessing the page in a new 'private' or 'incognito' window? Copy the page's address into that window and check that your cookies are not allowing you in because the browser thinks you're already logged in. If that works the you can try clearing your browsers cache/cookies and see if the problem still exists in your normal browser window.

Let us know how you go.

Cheers, Mark

Thank you, Mark. That seems to be the problem--it was remembering me. I happen to have another computer in the house, and when I logged on there, it prompted me for the password. All is good.

Your help in resolving this is very much appreciated!

Hi Adam,

Yes, I had republished. The problem was my computer was remembering me. When I used a different computer, it prompted me for the password.

Thank you for responding.
