Square Stand Inventory Management When Sold Out

I want to use square stand to sell lunch tickets in a trade show type environment at 4 different stations around the venue. I have 8 lunch options, and I would like to be able to stock all stations with more than enough physical tickets, and just have the inventory option display as sold out when the actual number of available lunches are sold out, and not allow any more sales to be processed. This way I don't have to worry about printing the exact number of tickets and some stations having extra tickets when others are sell out even if there is "stock" left. Essentially I want the option to have inventory work like it does for an online store at the physical register. Is this a possibility?

I will add my voice to the chorus - how can Square sell an item that does not exist. How many times to I have to explain to my customers that the items they ordered are out of stock - but they are somehow allowed to order them anyway. It makes our company look very unprofessional - like we don't know what we are doing.  I will be looking into other options beside Square. Such a shame that something so important has not been attended to - or even addressed - by Square for so many years!

If I missed to put an item in my library it allows me to scan the barcode at checkout. But It does not give me a beep or anything to let me know that the barcode did not scan.

can you please add a feature where it can make a sound letting me know at check out that the item is not on the system.


I would be more than half way scanning items and then I would notice after that one item didn’t scan and I would need to go back in the shopping bags and figure out which Item it was.



so can you please add a sound to where It beeps or makes a sound letting me know that the barcode that I scanned is not in my item library at check out

Thanks so much for this example. I can see how this would be a pain point @JM7. We've heard from other sellers in the past that they'd like to see a sold out functionality for the POS.

I am referring to,

when I am checking out customers and scanning barcodes at times some barcodes are not on the system so a notification pops up on the screen but it does not make a sound. So I would be halfway through checking out the customer and then notice that the other items I scanned did not pop up due to the notification

 

so can you add a sound to notifications of a missing barcode on checkout

Hi @KennedysCoffee - it looks like you're in the beta group. If you'd like to learn more about the feature we are testing now, there's a thread about it here. We'd be happy to get you set up. 

 

The other thing to call out is that using the updated Point of Sale checkout will show items with 0 inventory or that are marked as sold out using our beta feature will show with a strike though in the item grid. To get the new Point of Sale experience, tap on the three lines, tap settings, and then at the top of the "Checkout" settings page, tap "Upgrade to the new Square Point of Sale."

what I’m saying is 

 

let’s say I have a new item in the store and I forget to enter it on the Pos,

 

so at checkout I go to scan the item and on the screen it pops up that the item is not in the library.

 

so what I am asking for is for that pop up to make a sound, because right now all it does is show up on the screen

Completely agreed with @cvfarm. This has created such a terrible experience for our customers. We have a certain number of donuts available at the beginning of each day, but people can purchase them both online and in person. So, as people are placing orders online, we are also selling donuts in person and we often end up overselling, because the in-person POS system allows to sell items past a zero inventory level. How is this still not fixed? A toggle option would be super helpful for choosing which items can be "oversold". It's an incredibly poor experience for our customer when we have to call them and tell them that we don't have enough donuts for the online order they place din advance because we oversold in person. The updated POS system marking items as "sold out" is a start, but if an item is "in stock" but you only have 1, it lets you add as many as you want to the cart without blocking the sale. Please please fix this!

I do my services by appointments is there any way I could have an item sold out so people won’t keep booking?
