chip reader doesn't read anything

I just set up an account and got a Square chip reader.  I have tried everything to get it to read a mag stripe or chip and absolutely nothing happens.  I typed the card info in manually and it went through.  Is there some kind of trick to getting the reader to work?  I have tried it on my iPhone 5 as well as my iPad Air with no response from either device. Thanks for your help.

Hi @Horse and @Looliemom, so sorry to hear about the trouble with your chip card readers. Have you had a chance to run through these troubleshooting tips? Most of the time, those steps resolve any issues with accepting cards. Rest assured that I've shared your experience with our product liaison team.

If you're still having trouble after that or have concerns about fees, please contact our Support Team directly. They'll be able to look into specifics.

Hope this helps. Let us know if anything else comes up!

This is for everyone who's posted at this site.  It would be a great deal more helpful if everyone included what type of Square reader you're having issues with as well as what type device you're using it on.

I have two Square plug in readers that read cr. card chips or accept a swipe and I'm using an iPad Air 2.  Never had issues until this weekend and lost sales in the process.  Neither the chip reader nor swipe worked.

I messed with both readers today (10/16/17) and found out that after 3 unsuccessful attemps at making a $1.00 "Chip Sale" with my own credit card I was given instructions to swipe my card.  I did...and it worked...for both readers.

I'm currently waiting for Square to respond (1-3 days) but it certainly appears to me to be a technical issue is apparent at Square where both readers performed identically.
