Where is the data stored? Is it on the device or on Square's servers. I ask this because I'd like to know what to do if the iPad fails and we need to use a backup device. Plus, it would be nice if changes to the menu could be made by more than one person from more than one device. Thanks

All of your information is stored on Square's servers and will sync between devices automatically. That means you can make changes online or on any device and have them appear on all of the devices. It also means you can easily use a new device with no setup beyond signing into your account.

Thanks for the reply. After I posted, I started messing with menu items and when I went to create the grid, a message popped up recommending I use my PC logged in. This is a good thing.
On the flip side, what if my customer loses internet connection to Square's server during business hours?
Thanks again.

Hey @AcesRun - in order for the changes to sync across devices, you'll need an internet connection.
If you lose connection during business hours, you can enable Offline Mode, which allows you to accept payments as usual, but the cards aren't actually charged until you re-connect to the internet. (You'd have a 72-hour window before the payments would expire). Hope this helps!

Hi, all. I am new to this forum in particular, and new to forum discussions in general, but think VanKalker Farms answer about Square data storage probable holds the answer to my question, which is about data migration to new systems.
We have a table with standard Point of Sale software installed for taking credit sales, while hand writing receipts and keeping cash in a standalone legacy cash register. We want to migrate to the Square Register; in the interim, we want to enter items into POS, print receipts and integrate a cash drawer before our Square Register arrives.
If we enter our items, which are fairly extensive, into our present POS/tablet, will this data migrate to Square Register without having to reenter all our items into the new system.
Thanks, love y'all.

yes, your data will cross over to Square Register. But you have Square POS now running on a tablet in a Square Stand you have everything Square Register offers except for the Customer Display part of Square Register. So you could be using the Square POS on the tablet now instead of handwriting tickets.
