What is considered an "Other Tender”?

When reading the terms for pricing, a term called “other tender” is mentioned. Besides cards, cash and checks, what is an “other tender”?

Anything that's not already on the Tendering screen.  For instance, if you use in-store gift certificates those could be rung up under Other.  I use Other for those, or when a customer uses an existing credit, I ring it up under Other; that way, it's not a discount, and sales tax gets charged as it should for those sales.  You can use it for anything you want for your own particular purposes, but it can't be used for charged/debited sales, as it doesn't submit the sale to Square for processing.

Hey @Yarnshop 🧶

Thanks for posting in the Seller Community.

The category 'Other' is for other tender. Other tender is typically used to track cash, checks, gift cards from third-party services, and other types of payments.

Does that help? If you have any questions about this and would like us to take a look at your transactions, please give us a call

Why are all some of my payments coming through as OTHER TENDER, and some coming through as SQUARE payments?   Even more importantly, how can I see a report of what those "Other Tender" transactions are?  I am NOT LOVING THIS SOFTWARE!

@sklangley12 It sounds like some employees may be tapping "other" tender when ringing out a transaction. You can disable accepting other tender under Settings > Checkout > Payment Types in your Point of Sale app.

You can view any payments processed as other tender on Transactions on your Square Dashboard and filtering by "other" tender.
