Variant descriptions
Hi all
Product variations are often different flavours etc...so it would be good to be able to add a different description for a variant.
i.e. the existing Product Description for a generic description of the product, but then an additional optional description for the different variants, for example details specific to that variant. A good example (and important to a customer) is a Gluten Free or Vegan variant of a product.
Is there a way to do this? If not, could someone from Square please look into it?
Thanks
Simon

Hi @goodlifeheatons! Thanks for posting in the Seller Community 👋
It sounds like what you're looking to do can be accomplished using variations or modifiers. You can create modifiers straight from this page of your Square Dashboard, and apply them to specific items already in your Item Library.
I went ahead and checked to see how many characters can be typed and seen when creating a variation or modifier - turns out quite a few! It sounds like you don't need much space to include your details, but it's good to know in the case that you ever do need to include a long description for a variation or modifier.

Thanks for the reply. I got the impression that modifiers were so that customers could choose an additional value of the product, which has a cost implication.
The only downside of this, is the checkbox which isn't needed.
Also, for an example I have a product with 10 variation flavours. These 10 descriptions mean that the quantity and add to cart button is pushed WAY down the page.
Is there not a way to re-organise the content on the page?

Your impression is correct, @goodlifeheatons - modifiers are typically used for add-ons, but I have seen different business models use modifiers and variations in different ways. Just wanted to make sure I touched on all options here!
Ah, yes - if you're adding descriptions to 10 variations, that will take up more space on the screen. However, on most devices, your Add button should be in the top right-hand corner instead of where you're seeing it. Could you please let us know what device you're using when you're seeing an Add to cart button at the bottom of your screen? If you can possibly provide a screenshot, that would be very helpful!
