Setting up sales tax to wave tax for all but my home state customers while selling at a tradeshow

I can't figure out how to wave sales tax for all but those from my home state when selling items at a tradeshow out of state. Home state is Ohio. Trade show is in Chicago and Illinois does not require I collect sales tax for purchases made at the tradeshow. Ohio will require I collect sales tax from purchases based in Ohio if I will be shipping it to them. Help! Trade show starts Tuesday. I thought this would be easier. Thanks!

Since this is a Tradeshow and you have a lot of variables going on.... some will be taxed others won't be for in person transactions and then depending if you ship to an address within your state.  My suggestion is to have everything taxed, then at the time of Sale, after everything is calculated Select the sales tax and swipe it to turn it off.  If you will be shipping to the person in your state and need sales tax just do nothing.  I am not sure if you can do the opposite and have the Tax off, then just turn it on when needed.  We do this for our wholesale customers who buy in store.

What do you do so they can purchase through your website without being taxed when they shouldn't be? I only have tax set up in Ohio yet Illinois tax is being added to the cart even before the customer address is requested.

I am not sure there is a situation where you wouldn't have to collect tax unless you set up a separate order page just for the show with no taxes.  Or do taxes included in the sale price and fix it with your accountant on the back end since all the money comes through your account anyway.  I would make sure to get some professional tax advice on that one, as most states have gotten rid of that loophole.

@TeresaHarlow Probably easiest way would be to go in and set up a dining option called (Non-Ohio Resident) and then go to account & settings, Sales Tax, and do a sales tax rule that does not apply sales tax when you use that dining option.  So when someone comes up to buy something, just flip the dining option to Non-Ohio resident and bam...no sales tax.

You can also remove the sales tax on any transaction in the cart at checkout with the point of sale app.

If the sales are online, then it is a completely different animal, and I am assuming you are taking orders in person at the show.  Usually, I have always seen sales tax collected in the place the sale was made, but those answers are above my pay grade.
