Recurring invoices for subcription services

Why can't we send out a recurring invoice to clients that has been scheduled for the future. I want to let them know they have a invoice, but they don't get notified by their email. Also why is it that when creating memberships on our online store, it doesn't do a recurring bill automatically, instead once the pay for it, I have to then send them a recurring invoice. However that's not before I have to tell them that they have a recurring invoice coming every month. Is there a way I can make it easier????

Hey @Jasmineroman181!

Thanks for your post.

Would you mind elaborating a bit more about the first feature? As of right now, you can send an invoice that will be due in the future, and they can receive an email informing them of such.

To answer your second question, if you already saved a customer’s payment card, you can create a new Square Invoice and charge that card automatically on a monthly basis, rather than sending them an invoice each month that they have to pay.

You’ll pay a fee of 3.5% + 15 cents each time you complete a payment with Square Invoices using a card on file.

To do so:

  1. Confirm the amount you’ll be charging with your customer.
  2. Navigate to Invoices in your online Square Dashboard > click Create Invoice. For existing unpaid invoices, select Edit.
  3. Fill out your invoice. Be sure to select a customer from your directory.
  4. Under Invoice Method, use the drop-down menu to select a payment card.
  5. Click Charge.

Both you and your customer will receive an email notification when the card on file has been charged. The invoice will also display as Paid in your online Square Dashboard.

Please let me know if you have any other questions about this or if I misunderstood anything. I'll keep an eye on this thread!

It won’t send a notification of the future recurring invoice to the customer. Why not? The only time the customer will see it, is when the invoice comes up on the future date it was scheduled, instead of the day it was created. Is there a way to notify customers that there has been an invoice created for future billing?

You can share the invoice manually with the customer after creating the invoice, but clicking the "Share" button and emailing the link to the customer. While this isn't an automated system, it will allow you to notify them that they have been "enrolled" in an automatic invoice/membership if you need. You can read more about it here.

This is a great feature request though and I do see the importance of it! We can definitely continue to track this as I can see why you would want/need this to be an automated feature instead of manually alerting your customers of an automatic invoice.
