Limiting Discount to 1 per transaction
Is there a way to limit discounts to only ONE DISCOUNT per transaction?
Sometimes I'll have discounts on a product but don't want multiple discounts used.
For example: an employee buys a discontinued product that is marked 25% off.
I need to restrict the ability to apply their 20% Employee Discount + 25% Product Discount. We only want 1 to be chosen and applied, but I need to be able to restrict this in the system.

Hi Ashleah,
Yes, you can certainly do this in square. You go into your coupons and go to edit and there is a place to move a toggle button on to limit one coupon per transaction. See screenshot example below. Whatever coupon code the customer decides to use will work, but it will only allow them to use one. Let me know if this was able to help you.

This is a different issue. We need to be able to limit discounts while ringing up a customer. For instance, we are having a promo where all wine is 10% off in the shop. BUT if an employee uses their employee discount, each wine is automatically discounted 10%, then ANOTHER 35% is taken off for the employee discount. This should NOT happen.

I very much agree with this. I want to have more control over my employee discounts, including reporting of what their discounts were used on. I have to have to different discounts for employees based on the product, so they have to manually add their own discounts to each item. I would like to have a employee ID card that could be scanned and each item automatically apply the set employee discount based on that employees profile in the system.

Is there a way to limit one discount per sale? Right now, multiple discounts can be added to one sale.

Hi @greatnorthern - Thanks for reaching out to us here on the Square Seller Community👋
I went ahead and merged your post to an existing thread where other Square Sellers have discussed this topic as well. We merge duplicate conversations together to keep like comments in one place, and to make it easier for others to find the thread in the future.
Thank you for the assistance here, @Gold! ⭐

hi @_Violet,
I dont think this is the answer most people on this thread are looking for.
People want to be able to limit the number of discounts applied to an item so that you can't stack multiple discounts.
So for example if a wine shop has a promo of 10% off all wine, is there a way to prevent an employee adding their 35% staff discount on top of that?
Setting the discount to a maximum value wouldn't work in this instance.
Cheers!
Tom

Hi there, @Finnon,
Currently, our Square Online site will only allow a customer to add one coupon at a time, the coupon spot turns into a spot to enter a gift card, not another promo code. Are you not seeing that on your website?
