On my Square Register display there is link in blue to (Upgrade to new Square Point of Sale)  in the Settings list. Is this an appearance upgrade or a functional upgrade and what is the difference between what I currently have and the upgrade.

Hi @Ameliasbows,

 

I moved your post to an existing thread on how to update your app.

 

You need to keep your app up to date any time there's an update to make sure it and our hardware is running it's best. 

 

Not upgrading will definitely cause issues down the line as it does with all other apps. Every update will have bug fixes and improvements to the app.

 

Your app store/google play store will also tell you what the new features are when you go to upgrade as it does for all other apps too.

Hi ashc - I don't think you have answered Ameliasbows specific question.  I recently purchased the Square Register and I have the same message "Upgrade to the new Square Point of Sale".  When I click on it, it changes the appearance of the screens.  It does give me the option to revert back but warns that this is only temporary.  Before clicking that Upgrade link I looked in the About section and it said my software was up to date.  So my question is, when is that new version going to automatically updated?  I ask because my employee instruction sheets to do certain tasks such as sell gift cards will change when the appearance of the screens change when this new upgrade takes affect.  Thank you.

@SDIC Stepping in for ashc here! 

 

The exact date in which the old design will be deprecated is not yet determined, but it will likely happen in the next month or two. 

We will definitely send out communications via in-app notifications and email ahead of time to give all sellers a heads up, so you will have plenty of notice to train your team.

You can opt in to the new checkout experience to take a look around. You do have the option to revert back to the previous checkout view if you decide this doesn't work for you. I posted some images below so you can get an idea of what this will look like. 

You can get started in the app by going to >Settings >Checkout > "Upgrade to the new Square Point of Sale". If you'd like to revert back, go to >More >Settings > Checkout >"Revert back to previous experience.

The App Store is missing. Square app give error ""Point of Sale" Needs to Be Updated". I see no option to update. Help please! Thanks.

You will need to access the App Store in order to manually update the app. Are you able to search for it on our device?

Hm.. App Store Connect is for adding apps to the App Store. Maybe this link from the Apple Community will help you with finding it on your device.

@BernadetteA Ah potentially the solution, thanks! But sadly it's asking for a passcode. I've tried the Square Owner passcode,  Square Team passcode, and 0000. Nothing is working. I'm stuck again. Thanks for any additional advice you might have.

@BernadetteA never mind. I found a work around to disable the passcode since I have the Apple ID credentials. I got the app updated, thanks!
