Email Marketing Customer Opt In?
What customers would I be e-mailing? In other words, how does Square populate the mailing list? How do customers opt in, or opt out? What is the default?
I'm sorry if this has been addressed already, I can't seem to find the answers.

There are two ways that a customer can be added to your Customer engagement marketing emails. If you are enrolled in Customer Engagement Pro, you can add your customer manually to your directory directly from your Square Point of Sale app. Or your customer will be automatically added to your customer directory if they visit your business at least 2 times within the last 12 months.
Check out our Support Center for more information on getting started with Customer Engagement.

If my customers have not specifically asked me to be on a contact list for my business, why is it okay for me to send them a promotion through Square? I am tempted to do that but don't want to frustrate or annoy customers.

This reply was created from merging an existing thread: Okay to promote to Square customers?
Great question @weehah! I've moved your post here so you can read Kelly's reply to a similar question, which explains how customers are added to your Directory.
If you have concerns about contacting some customers, you could use the Email Collection tools to encourage customers to provide their email address at the end transaction. That way, when you're ready to send a campaign, you could choose to send it to only the Collected Emails group in your Directory. It's also worth mentioning to your customers that sometimes you send promotional emails to see what they think!
Finally, keep in mind customers will have the option to opt out by clicking Manage Preferences, visible at the bottom of every marketing email.
