Different Prices for Different Locations

I have a business where I have Craft Fair Pricing and now will be in a Retail Store. I plan on purchasing a Square Terminal (if this is the correct thing to do) for the Retail Store Employees to use.

The Craft Fair Pricing and Retail pricing are different and I'd like for the Square Terminal to only have Retail pricing. I'd also like for the Retail Store Employees to have access to only some items available. (Not all of my items will be in the Retail Store).

Is it possible for them to sell and see only Items A, B, C and NOT D and E?  (Note that the items already have variations, sizes, as they are clothing).

Thanks in advance.

Hello @AroundFoCo ! Yes you can do this!

What I recommend is setting up a separate location for your retail business. (And yes, the terminal is a great idea: just be aware that the grid style screen you see on the Point of Sale is not available. Your employees will have to type in the name of the item on each sale). In your dashboard, Account & Settings -> Business -> Locations.

You can import your entire item library to your new location or pick and choose as you want. Don't worry about pricing at this moment.

Once the item library is sync'ed up to your new location, export the item list to excel. In this spreadsheet, look for the Enabled [Retail Location] and Price [Retail Location] columns. You can change everything you want here. It's a LOT faster than doing this in the item library. Import the item list and you'll be good to go!

Hope this helps!

To the second part of your question:

The Terminal's user interface works just like if you had Square on your phone. The item grid isn't there; you just have your item list with a search bar at the top. When you use the search bar, when you pause typing, Square will find items that match what you've typed so far. So you don't necessarily have to type the entire item out.

For me, that's a deal breaker. My item library is quite sizable, and it is a pain to ring things in quickly without the grid. But every situation is different, and what doesn't work for me could be perfect for you.

More info on Square Terminal is in this help file.

This is a great reply, thank you!

Last question - could I use the terminal without "paper". A lot of ppl just want emailed receipts.

Sorry - and why is grid not available? Is it just not a feature on terminal? And "typing" in -> will it auto fill in so employee can find the correct item? I've tried to read more about the terminal but there's not a lot out there (or I am missing it).

Thanks again.

I don't use the terminal myself, so I'm not sure how much it would freak out if there was no paper. However, it automatically gets sent to you with a roll of paper. If nobody uses a paper receipt, that roll should last you quite some time. 🙂

This reply was created from merging an existing thread: Multiple Locations with Different Checkout Screens

I am using square to run a small shop/store and now would like to open a bar area on site. However, I would like the checkout screen to be different at this site, with the focus being on drink sales not gifts. I have set up different locations, but want to know if it is possible to change the 'location' of the device and the checkout layout to change with it?

Yes @nasasteve! Take a look at this thread where @ryanwanner answered a similar question and shared a few steps to get started. There's additional information about creating and managing multiple locations in the Support Center too!
