Creating one product for many sales channels
Hi!
What is the best way to optimize the title for an item that is sold via multiple sales channels?
For example, my products are sold via various sales channels: Retail, Wholesale, Restaurants, Institution, etc. I've assigned these sales channels as categories.
So for example:
- let's say the product is "Kale".
- I assign 4 categories to the item - 1 category for each sales channel.
- I title the product as "Kale"
- Each product has 2-4 variations that pertain to size (i.e. 1 Dry Pint, etc)
- See image below:
However, I have a problem when I go to invoice a restaurant when they order kale -- I'm faced with having to guess which line item is related to Restaurant. See image below:
As a workaround, I know that I can modify the titles of my products to designate the sales channel (i.e. Kale - Restaurant). However, I would prefer not to do this, as I'd like to keep my invoice clean, and not communicate to my clients that I have different pricing for different sales channels. Additionally, I use Categories, which feels redundant in this case.
Is there an optimal way to do this?
Thanks!

Hey there, @sproutculture -
Excellent question! The setup you have now is one of the best options, but I can see where you struggle when it comes to adding those items to your Invoices. As you mentioned, you can edit the item title to make it easier to recognize them.
One option you could try would be to add the different pricing as variations instead of the different categories. Doing this would allow you to make the selection (retail, wholesale, etc) when adding it to the invoice.
Please let me know if you have any other questions. I am happy to circle back!

Thanks for your ideas, Kassi!
I do use variations for my pricing. See the example below for my Kale product. Despite having this setup, it does not impact what I see when selecting items, however.

@Kassi_ You had suggested to add different pricing variations instead of different categories - and that by doing so, I'd be given the option to select which sales channel when adding to an invoice. I see this is possible via the mobile app, but I'm not seeing how this works on the desktop webapp. Am I missing something?

Happy to help, @sproutculture.
Yes, the variations will show up whenever you add the items to the Invoice through your Dashboard. The invoice can be created under the Invoices tab. You have the options to type the item name in the Line item box, or you can click the drop down box to see the list of your library items.
Make the selection will show you a box with all variations listed under that particular item.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
