Can anyone help me with this idea: Gift card with point balance?
I just recently opened a tanning salon. I attended the national tanning expo and got demos for tanning software that keeps up with your clients and their minutes/visits. I don’t want to use a computer to purchase this software and use my square equipment so I started thinking. Is there anyway I could purchase the gift cards and when people come in and purchase a package give them a card that keeps up with their minutes. For example if they buy 300 minutes and come in and use 10 minutes I swipe and it deducts from the card. Also that’s proof that they’ve “checked in”. Any guidance is appreciated I haven’t purchased any of the cards yet, but will soon. Thanks.

Hello @Terrifictans!
I think I have an idea of what you're trying to do, but it would skew a lot of your reports on Square Point of Sale.
This could work well if you charge a dollar a minute, because when you load a value onto a gift card you also have to record a sale for the amount. For example loading $300 dollars to a card will record a sale for the amount. If you charge a different amount per minute it could get real messy because you'd need a separate transaction from the gift card to record the sale.
So it's possible, but I'm not sure if it's the best option in the long run. If you other ideas or questions please feel free to bounce them off of me. 🙂
