Can I run both Square POS and Square register?

I am currently using 2 checkouts, Square POS and a Square Terminal as my second checkout. I would like to replace Square Terminal with the Square register. Can I hook the Square register to my existing Receipt printer and Cash Drawer and run both checkouts so a receipt will print or cash drawer will open? Do I have to buy a second printer/cash drawer and run them independently so each checkout has their own printer/cash drawer?

The answer is yes and no. 🙂

There is no issue running Register and POS at the same time. However, there are some printer and cash drawer limitations.

If you have your printer connected to the POS via a Stand USB connection, the printer can only be seen by the POS. The same goes for the cash drawer.

If you have your printer on an Ethernet connection, you can use it regardless of device though. This is how I had my systems set up and it works fine. Do know that your cash counts at the end of the day may get a little weird sharing the drawer: be sure to enable cash management on each device and close the drawer at the end of the day on each device to get the accurate cash totals.

I haven't played with Wifi printers or Bluetooth printers yet. My bet is that the wifi printer will be seen on each device (since it acts like a connection to your network) and the bluetooth ones will only be seen on the device its paired to.
