COGS - Report filters
Hello,
My question is about the Cost of Goods Sold reporting.
There are these filters: All Stock Actions, Sales, Sales & Inventory recounts, Sales & Losses.
Just looking over the filter name, I get somewhat of an idea of what that is referring to, however looking over the report - I can't quite see what's happening or why the difference is so great in profit margin.
Sales - that's straight forward...
Sales & losses - is that counting in returns? I can't really see that happening in the report... yet my cogs jumps up.
Sales & inventory recounts - I'm not sure how an inventory recount would effect COGS, but it seems to drastically effect profit margin on my sold items? Is this metric taking your sales and deducting if you changed an item quantity to less than what square said you had and chalking it up as a loss? Like a stolen item for example?
I guess what I would like to know is: what is being reported in "Losses" or "Inventory Recounts". What is that metric exactly? Perhaps an example.
Thank you.

Hi @CellTech - Thanks for reaching out to us here on the Square Seller Community👋
Here are some definitions I grabbed from this Support Article on Square for Retail Reporting
-
All Stock Actions: You can view your costs and margins based on all adjustments (a true Cost of Goods Sold), including re-counts, restocked returns, and losses.
-
Sales: You can view your costs and margins based on just sales and returns (this does not include re-counts and losses)
-
Sales and Inventory Re-counts: You can view your costs and margins based on sales, returns and re-counts (please note that a re-count that adjusts up will credit (decrease)* your Cost of Goods Sold, while re-counts that adjust down will debit (increase) your Cost of Goods Sold).
-
Sales and Losses: You can view your costs and margins based on sales, returns, and losses (including theft, damage, loss, and a re-count adjustment down).
I hope this information is helpful but please do let us know if you have any additional questions. Always happy to help! 😊
