Feature request: deposit on bottle and cans for recycling and reuse

In Quebec as elsewhere in Canada we must apply a non-taxable deposit fee for the recycling and reuse of cans and bottles (beers, sodas, …) and soon wine bottles and many other types of containers.

We need either the ability to scan a barcode and in this single sweep to see the product (taxable) added to the purchase basket, and at the same time see the deposit fee on the can (non-taxable) added for each item.

I tried creating this as service fee, but we can't attach a service fee to an item and it be applied systematically. We have to add the service fee manually everytime, which is less efficient and can lead to errors and omissions.

Please and thank you!

Hi again @MR2020 Thank you for your patience while awaiting my reply 🙏 It took some time to track down the correct Product Team that owns this feature for more insight.

Here's what they let me know:

"The auto card surcharge work is currently planned for later this year but we do not have an exact ETA at this time. Please note that the initial scope is limited to auto card surcharge.

We are initially focussing on adding this ability to the Square Point of Sale systems. API/Square Online support will come later on."

I hope this information is helpful but please do let me know if you have any additional questions.
