Feature Request: Option to Split Bill without Creating Multiple Order Tickets

Feature Request: Option to Split Bill without Creating Multiple Order Tickets

Hi all 🙂

We are quite new to the restaurant and square game, we run a pub in a small town and currently using square for restaurants for our meals.

Quite often we will have multiple people line up to place their order and pay individually but be on the same table number, is their a way to allow payments to be made but have the ticket print the full list of meals for that table? at this point the only option i can see is split payments, however that is not really ideal for us.

Apologies as this is a bit tricky to explain, but any information would be absolutely appreciated!

Hi there @MHotel,

I think I understand what you're asking here but I just want to double-check before proceeding!

To clarify, is the idea that multiple people pay individually for their portion of the group table order at the beginning of service? From what I'm understanding, you then want that entire order to be sent to the kitchen on the same order ticket, is that correct?

Additionally, how are you currently entering group table orders?

Once I've gathered some more info I'll run this by my team to see if we can recommend any alternatives to the Split Payment option.

P.S. Welcome to the Seller Community! 🤗

Hi @Laurie_

Yes so currently people are pre paying at the time of ordering and we would enter the table number (we use table numbers on sticks handed out)

Currently we take each persons order as they line up, some groups will pay all together and work the split out amongst themselves, however we have some larger tables that will each order and pay individually. in these cases we would love to be able to take each persons order and take payment but have the ticket print the tables combined order. where as at the moment the kitchen is struggling a little as we may have 5-10 tickets for the same table which may have multiple of the same meal. The kitchen staff are hoping we can combine these easily so that it would say 3x Chicken Parm rather than 3 separate tickets.

Hopefully this makes sense 😅

And thank you! the community seems very helpful!

Thanks for confirming, @MHotel!

From what you have described it sounds like this is a limitation of the Square for Restaurants app. Currently, the two options are to either split the bill or split the payment

Splitting the payment will ensure that the full order remains intact, however, it's more geared towards a completely even split between all parties (this can be achieved via a Smart Split - instructions in the above payment link).

So, for what you're looking for, this doesn't really solve the problem of being able to process individual payment amounts from the same order (without splitting the bill). This would currently be considered a feature request at this time. We'd be happy to move this to our feature requests board on your behalf so that our Product Team can continue to monitor the feedback for this request.

Before we move your post, do you have any other questions about using Square for Restaurants?

Hi Laurie,

Thank you for your response, yes this all that is needed at this point for Square for restaurants at this point.

I do have a question regarding stock control with Beer for square for retail however.

Is their a way to pull inventory from a keg without having the keg as an option for sale? i can see that i can list the different glass millage and same with the keg however unsure if it is possible.

If you have any insight or could point me in the right direction that would be amazing 🙂

Thank you!

Hey there, MHotel, thanks for your patience while I got back to you here!

This is a really great question and I have two answers for you at the moment.

Firstly, through Square for Retail you're able to use the Stock Conversion feature to sell items in different units of measure, including by the glass or by the bottle, to ensure your inventory is correctly reduced. You can take a look at the steps to set this up here

In terms of a feature like this becoming available through Square for Restaurants, we're continuing to track the feedback we receive for this request, and provide any available workarounds, via this ongoing thread. I'd encourage you to follow the thread to receive updates as they come to hand from our Product Team.

I'll go ahead and move this thread to our Square for Restaurants Feature Request board now for tracking. 👍

I second this feature request. We have a cafe with table service inside but require customers dining outside to come up to the counter to order. Being able to take individual payments and then send a group docket would be and incredible addition to the Square Restaurants app. It would make taking orders a lot less confusing and simplify the amount of dockets being sent to the kitchen for one table.

Thank you for adding your voice to this suggestion, @Parco! We're continuing to highlight the feedback we're receiving here with our product team.

Hi we also would like this feature we have a takeaway shop where people can ring an order through but come to paying they want to pay for items separate we have to print the order out than cancel it and put each item in separate as we are very busy it takes up so much time I would like to have a feature that I can tick what has to be paid and it is taken of the end of the bill.

I understand how time-consuming it would be to have to remove, and add items again for a take-away shop, where your customers are probably in a rush. Thank you for sharing this feedback @VicRCT

We have the exact same issue.

For years with our old system this was easily done, but we are swapping over to Square in Jan 2024 but will need to have chefs manually join kitchen receipts together for tables paying seperately.

It's disappointing this feature doesn't exist as the situation of ordering and paying at a register is very common, I'm suprised this feature doesn't exist!
