hey everybody!
i'm on the FREE weebly plan.
with stripe connected and up+running.
BUT: shop keeps showing me "Payments are not enabled for this site." when trying to put things into the basket.
support says, i would need to upgrade to a PRO plan "...is because you are under the free plan. In order to sell items online, an upgrade is needed; please review the information below.
but their website says the opposite under "FREE":
https://squareup.com/us/en/online-store/plans#panel-compare-plans--whm0hTgHQTcl2IORNcHcm
Provide a seamless and secure checkout experience that works everywhere - including mobile phones and tablets.
i can't find any information anywhere that confirms the support's statement.
is the FREE just a bait to sell something after all? 😞
thanks for your feedback.

Hi there @guidokroeger !
Let me help clarify the confusion about Weebly's free plan and e-commerce functionality.
I've reviewed Weebly's official pricing page (https://www.weebly.com/pricing), and I understand your frustration.
While the free plan does show shopping cart functionality and unlimited items in the features list, there's an important distinction:
The Reality:
- Weebly support is correct in this case - you do need a paid plan (like Pro or Business) to actually process payments and complete sales
- The free plan allows you to set up products and a shopping cart, but the final payment processing functionality is locked behind the paid plans
- This is a common practice among e-commerce platforms where you can "set up" your store on the free plan, but need to upgrade to actually process transactions
Why This Is Confusing:
- The pricing page could definitely be clearer about this limitation
- While technically you can add a shopping cart and unlimited items on the free plan, you can't complete the actual sales process
- This distinction isn't clearly communicated in the feature comparison chart
Your Options:
- Upgrade to a paid Weebly plan to enable payment processing
- Consider using Square Online that offers free e-commerce functionality
- If you feel this is misleading, you can provide feedback to Weebly about the clarity of their pricing page
I agree that this could feel like a "bait and switch" tactic, and Weebly could be more transparent about these limitations in their pricing comparison. While you can set up your store on the free plan, the ability to actually process payments and complete sales requires a paid subscription, especially when using a different payment processor outside of square.
I hope this helps.

here is the right link for this point (the one above is from square, not weebly):
