Hi in order to file & pay sales taxes correctly I need to be able to identify sales that ship to another state, by county and state shipped to. Is there a way to do that? Ideally I need a report that shows sales, taxes etc. for each state & county. thanks!

Did you try the export at https://squareup.com/dashboard/sales/reports/taxes from your Square Dashboard on a computer. I get my State and other Municipalities taxes for my state listed there. Not sure if that would show your taxes for other states. As most states do not require Taxes collected on out of state sales. I did see some state are trying to get taxes collect on items purchased out of state. My online stores site does show what Items and the $ amounts shipped out of state but since currently I do not have to pay taxes on items out of state, these just show $0.00 for those taxes collected or charged. The other thing you may have to do is look at your Online sites information and reports. How were these sales made, online or Phone orders to be shipped out of state? Wherever you create your web page at if they were online sales I would look for reports there.

Hi there, @AstralAcc,
We don't have a feature like that at this time, but feedback like this is very helpful when planning for future releases.

How can you NOT have a feature like this? It's a legal requirement that merchants report this info to the state. How can you collect taxes without supplying this info? My subscription is up for renewal, and I am leaving Square because of it.

This does not show the breakdown for anything but the county my business is registered and then a general lump sum for the rest of the state. I ave tried reaching out to your support team for the last hour and 45 minutes, only to get reps that have NO idea what I am even asking, and then hang up on me instead of transfer me to someone who might understand the basic question.
Appreciate your response, but this is a deal-breaker for me. It's a basic report, and if, after 2 hours, I am told it is not possible to do unless manually, I am off this platform as fast as I can setup on another. Basic report.

I researched the hell out of this before realizing it wasn’t an option. Square users have been requesting this feature for YEARS. It seems Square doesn’t care about user needs.

Thanks for the responses. This is very much needed. Otherwise it’s a manual nightmare and frankly may cause me (and others) to look for another platform that does provide. Please do prioritize tax reporting needs as that is a requirement for all who sell! Ty!

thanks Keith for your reply. Can you share how you get this report to show you breakdown of taxes by Municipality within state for you online sales? Mine only shows a line for online sales -- no breakdown by municipality in this screen. thanks in advance!

I do not use Square for my Online Store, and in my original reply above it has Blue text that should take you right to the page in Square. The Link again is : https://squareup.com/dashboard/sales/reports/taxes
The steps would be:
1) sign in to your Square Dashboaud on a computer
2) Select Reports on the Left
3) Select Reports with an ">"
4) Select Taxes
Then I see:
These are from my square for Retail Phone orders for shipping. If you are looking for sales from an online chanel, you may have to go to their web editor and see if they have a sales report file. For my Website, (which is not affiliated with Square), I print out all my Completed Shipped orders csv file which shows me where each item was shipped (City State and Zip code plus the total charged to the customer. If you are using Squares Website I believe this is through Weebly but I could be wrong.
I would look where you need to see where the package is being shipped to for your online purchases.

thanks Keith.
My guess to why your has this level of detail is because you don't use square for your online store and whatever you are using is importing sales tax by county into your square report. I DO use square for my online store and it only reports the sales tax as one line "New York" vs broken out by county name.

Sorry I was unable to help I was under the impression that The Online through Weebly was owned by Square and for some dumb reason I thought the reporting would be the same. I have no idea why a Retail POS that does some out of state phone orders shows this but the Online version would not. I ship out alot to multiple states through my online store. Here is the dumb part for me in PA, Square breaks this all down for my POS when I get a phone order that needs to be shipped but when I do my State Sales Tax, Pa just asks for the total sales tax, and if I am located in some of the larger areas like Philadelphia.

Yeah not sure why this is happening either, and neither does square’s engineering team that’s been working on it for almost a week. California requires reporting based on every CITY. But it really shouldn’t show anything except mine in square because I sell in person locally and everything else is online. Tax should be calculated based on shipped from location. For some reason they’ve broken it out differently and the numbers don’t add up. They even differ if I download my transaction report and calculate manually. Something is off, and it’s costing me penalties with the state for late payment now. Rather ridiculous.

I chatted with the state and Square. The state says in CA all items shipped in state need to pay rates for the destination (which is INSANE). That being said, Square has no intention of making reporting easier on us (I have tried) and recommended I download my order report and calculate each city MANUALLY. Then I had to enter that line by line to report taxes. Nightmare. Seriously considering using the 3rd party integration to do this for me as my business grows

Yeah, this is ridiculous. We're in the same shape, we sell boats throughout the US / Canada / branching out further and we're now selling clothing / gear online and having the same battles per city / state / county
absolute nightmare
