Squareup online invoicing and sales tax: Why is ship to address getting replaced with our location?

Hi,

I have been trying to fix this issue for weeks with no help. I will explain our business and then the issue at hand.

We have a clothing business where customers buy our products in bulk. We send a squareup invoice to the customer which collects their payment as well as their shipping information. We use a sales software that integrates with Square to pull invoices when they have been paid. The sales tax is calculated from the destination address of the goods, which is the shipping address they supply.

When they fill out the shipping address and pay the invoice, our sales tax software pulls the invoice in and for some reason defaults the ship to location as our business location. As a result, our sales tax software is incorrectly identifying that every square invoice we send should count as taxable revenue in our business state which is not correct. Support has not been helpful, and the sales tax company / Square have just said that it is the other companies' problem.

Am I missing something here?

Thanks for your help.

Hi there @aaco

I'm sorry to hear about this issue.

Is the shipping address appearing correctly on Square's end?

I wonder where the software is pulling your own address from, as this is not part of the invoice information and only shows on the PDF file if you have elected to show your location information on your receipts.

It would be helpful to know which integration this is, so we can try to gather information on whether it is managed by Square or by a third party.

Let me know and I'll be happy to take a look for you.

Thank you!
