Can You Take Deposits for Online Bookings with Square?

my business involves hiring out party equipment and i was wondering if there is a way to add for clients to pay a refundable deposit on my site.

my last website let me divide the amount up so they could pay half upfront then the other half either on the day of or just prior to hiring out my items.

could anyone please let me know if this is possible to do please and thank you

Hi @bowiesballoons  — thanks for your patience while we got back to you!

I noticed no other Sellers had jumped in here, so I wanted to share a bit more information that might help. 🙂

At the moment, Square doesn’t offer a built-in way to collect deposits for online purchases or bookings directly through your website. However, there are some great third-party integrations, like Acuity Scheduling, that offer the ability to accept deposits at the time of booking. You can explore more options like this in the Square App Marketplace.

If you're looking for a solution using Square alone, the best option would be to use Square Invoices. This allows you to:

1. Request a partial payment upfront (as a deposit),

2. And set a second payment due later, closer to the event date.

To learn more about how to set that up, check out our Square Invoices guide.

Let me know if you'd like help walking through the steps!
