How can I improve my Square Online site's SEO ranking?

The title of this thread has been edited from the original: Poor SEO ranking.

I've created an online store selling products to industry but I'm not getting any hits at all, even though they are everyday items. All my product descriptions are SEO friendly, but I'm told that I need links to other sites as well as downloadable resources. All good, except I cannot see where in Square I can add said links/resources - can anybody help?

Thanks for reaching out, @RonEL.

While we donโ€™t provide direct SEO consultation for Square Online, we have several resources that might help improve your site's ranking. Hopefully some other Sellers will join the thread soon to share their tips, but in the meantime, you might want to check out the following resources:

Thank you Katie. It's certainly a bit different from when I did my first website using Microsoft Frontpage!

There's a lot of information in those links you gave, and it's very much appreciated. I will go through it all, and also employ a SEO consultant to speed up the process.

RonEL I am struggling with SEO. I ran Google Analytics and Search COnsole and found that the website hadn't been crawled at all. Have you had any luck withthe SEO stuff above?

Since Search Console says it has not been crawled, I would separate indexing from SEO rankings first. Backlinks help later, but Google has to be able to discover and understand the pages before they matter.

Check the exact product and category URLs in Search Console's URL Inspection tool. If they say discovered but not crawled, submit your XML sitemap and request indexing for a few important URLs. If they say excluded, look for noindex, redirects, duplicate canonical URLs, or pages blocked by robots.txt. It is worth testing one page type at a time: homepage, category, product.

For Square Online stores, the biggest practical SEO lift is often making category and product pages answer real buyer searches. Use page titles and opening copy that say what the item is, who it is for, material or specs, compatibility, size, delivery area, and any buying constraints. Product descriptions can be SEO friendly but still too generic if they do not match the terms buyers use.

I would also add internal links from the homepage and top categories to your priority products, then watch Search Console's Pages and Queries reports for impressions. No impressions usually means indexing or crawl issue; impressions with no clicks means title, meta, and offer clarity need work.
