A couple of days with new item creation flow (some thoughts)

First- it seems like there's a lag... you know when your computer gets old and you can type faster than it's registering you typing? Well- that's what's going on in the new item creation- I know I'm a quick typer (80-90wpm) but this isn't 1997 dial up.

When adding a new item, it's important for the variation name to be accessible immediately under manage inventory. There are many items that don't warrant multiple variations- but we want to ensure that the variation name is listed so it prints on the barcode label. Otherwise, it just says "regular".

Now, we're forced to select variation- even if it's just one item to make sure the item name shows up properly.Screenshot 2025-11-10 at 8.53.34 AM.png

Another thing that is sort of a time waster is not being able to tab through to add stock; instead we need to click it and add.Screenshot 2025-11-10 at 8.59.10 AM.png

I'm not really sure how this process is easier/better/more efficient than the prior version.

It certainly doesn't include some improvements (like store facing notes we've been requesting for half a decade).

Yeah I had to add a few items last week with multiple variations and it definitely took me a lot longer. More clicks to  accomplish the same thing I used to be able to just tab thru quickly. I personally am not a fan. I can see how it possibly could be quicker for the people who are able to use the autogenerate items by scanning the barcodes but that doesn’t work for the items I sell

We don't use auto scan because we have a very specific convention we use to list products (we have more than 1000) and if we did that we'd have to go back in and adjust anyway.

I am curious as to who is actually doing end user acceptance testing.  Because any of the regular paying users see this is an obvious GUI failure.  There is probably backend reasons for doing this, but the number of extra clicks is getting ridiculous.  Developers & product managers should know to implement the least amount of interaction (clicks, pop ups, not placing a cursor in the appropriate data entry point, etc) .  Extra clicks = less productivity

A "feature" I just found is when adding inventory from the web dashboard, if you have multiple vendors, you have to select the vendor but it doesn't auto populate the unit cost.  It uses whatever the default vendor unit cost.  More data entry for information that is already there.  If you don't catch it, then your COGS is off.  On the register, if you try adding inventory from items with multiple vendors, there is no longer an option to select the vendor or cost, just quantity.  Again this will screw up your reporting.

When entering categories, why on earth did they implement the back arrow again, when the feedback on the menu system was we don't like the clicks.

On a side note, if someone could check on their side; when I go to locations and channels, I have five channels.   For any old product, 5 of 5 channels are checked.  When I add a new product, make it available, ensure all things are correct for each of those channels, I can select both google and Facebook, but are unchecked when I go back in.  Not sure if this is a just "me" problem, or if others are seeing the same issue.

I get multiple items from vendors. The trick to that is you don’t set a default price for the vendor, just set a default for the item when you create it. From that point on when you reorder that item it will automatically add the default item price and you just need to make sure that the item price hasn’t changed

Sorry, that should have said unit cost, not price.  I updated the thread.

The unit cost needs to be correct for correct COGS. They aren’t pulling up the correct unit cost based on the vendor, as it was previously.

I agree with the Regular issue. I think there should be a way to make (Blank) the variation default.  And it should be quicker to change.

Tabbing would make things much quicker.

I definitely agree. The default sh

be either left blank or allow us to simply type in what we want. I normally add items with a dozen variations. It’s a pain to add the item and then start adding the other variations just to have to save the item then go back in to change the 1st variation from regular
