Hey there @mangell

First, I doubt we'll know "why" this is the way it is. It's very possible it is just an oversight. That being said, I find that most standard Square reports are like this -- they don't retain change to default filters/sorting. Anyway, I hoped that you could just "right click" on an employee name to open details, but that doesn't seem to work. There is no "open in new tab/window" in the popup menu. So....

You'll need to head to the feature request board and ask the team to consider making this sort option "sticky."

Lastly, I'm confused by this statement you made -- "I know I can change it, but it requires me to click it to "Last, First" and then click the left hand column to get it to sort.". I don't have to click the left hand column to get it to sort when I switch between "First Last" and "Last, First." It automatically re-sorts. It's weird that it works for me but not for you.

Minor issue here, but annoys me every time I go to enter payroll hours. Why is the default "view by" setting for employee timecards "First, Last"? I know I can change it, but it requires me to click it to "Last, First" and then click the left hand column to get it to sort. Then, if I have to click on an employee to view the details of their shift, when I go back to the page, I have to sort it all over again. So to enter hours from Square into my non-Square payroll program's spreadsheet I'm literally sorting multiple times. I would think most businesses would want the default to be "Last, First" as is standard in all the other programs we use.

This is the exact reason I came to the community. We are new to Square and I was hoping there was a setting to answer/correct this issue. I will never understand how anyone would want any list, especially a payroll list to be sorted by someone's first name. And I agree with @mangell, I sort then "click" on a name, then when I return to the list I have to do it all over again. To me this would be a no brainer when building a payroll platform. I hope this is not a sign of problems to come. If there is an answer out there I have not come across please someone let me know. Thanks. Kind of aggravated with this very first payroll run.
