thread Feature Request: Inventory Transfer Orders using a Barcode Scanner in Your Square Account Information

The title of this thread has been edited from the original: Inventory Transfer Orders.

Hello Square Team,

Square Champion John from JT Pets here! I just wanted to share some thoughts on the recent updates to the inventory transfer orders function. While I appreciate the improvements, there’s one critical feature that would really streamline the process: Barcode Scanning!

When I’m transferring products from one location to another, all I want to do is scan an item, place it in the transfer bin, and move on. If I have a dozen of an item, I’d rather scan it 12 times than manually type in numbers—which leads to errors far too easily. Just today, I nearly transferred 10 units of something three separate times when I only meant to transfer one (that pesky zero just didn’t clear).

Adding support for a USB scanner, whether in the Dashboard or the POS, would eliminate these errors, speed up the workflow, and make transfers far more efficient.

Thanks for considering this improvement; it’d be a game-changer for inventory management!

Additional Call out - Now that inventory has a "transfer" period where it is in transit - I need that information visible when looking at inventory. I went to order things I have in transit assuming the 2 in transit did not exist when looking at my inventory at locations of 2 & 0 - instead of 2 & 2 or 4(-2) & 0(+2)

How am I to know what is in transit when looking at inventory information without pulling up stock history?

Hey @JTPets -- thanks so much for your feedback! Increasing the quantity of stock in a Transfer Order through Barcode Scanning is not currently supported, but we're always looking at new ways to continue improving the Transfer process. Will keep you updated as we learn more.

@tonymilne scanning with a barcode should be the primary way of adding stock to ALL processes. This is how to ensure accuracy. Manually searching for products is inefficient and leads to inaccuracy.

Thank you!
