How do you resolve "Get OAuth Token" error in Magento configuration?

Square lists a free app they developed for integrating Square POS to Magento in the Apps section while logged in to my Dashboard. I was particularly interested for the features they mention to use Square POS to create in person orders and have those orders sync with my Magento store. They mention several features you get with the extension such as

"Keep inventory, catalogs, and customer profiles in sync between Square and Magento"

"Use Square POS software and hardware for in-person transactions and manage/view sales in Magento"

We installed the app and started the configuration in Magento. However, we are getting an error when trying to get OAuth Token saying "There was an error in retrieving the access token, please check Application Secret and try again". We reached out to Square support and they told us that all API functions are operated and managed by Magento? We contacted Magento and they in turn told us "we will not verify/provide any solution for the custom extensions developed by the 3rd party vendors".

Does anyone have any experience with the Square developed app for Magento?

Unfortunately this is a known issue with Magento's integration. BUT there is a workaround! ☝️

Login to your Square dashboard to see your apps: https://squareup.com/dashboard/apps/my-apps
Open your Magento app by clicking “Manage App”
On the “Credentials” tab (which is the tab that opens by default) scroll to the bottom to “API Version”
Click “Change Version” and choose “2019-02-13” from the drop down and click Confirm
Try again. It should work!
