Square Loyalty Redeem Rewards

Can someone please explain to me how I can set up my square rewards to redeem a free item by choosing a Category rather than having to put every option in the list? Every month we come out with new drinks and I have to go back and add them to the list of redeemable rewards rather than just saying "10 points can redeem any items from these categories". Does anyone know how to do this? Similar to discounts how I can discount an entire category.

Hello @kinoscoffee thanks for your question. When you setup a new reward item, you should be able to choose Category from the drop down menu. See screen shot below:

Well I don't want to discount a category, I want to redeem a free item, but rather than having to choose each item that is redeemable I would like to choose what categories free items can come from. That way every time we add drinks to our menu I don't have to go back in to my loyalty and add them to this list.

I believe that if you do Discount a Category, and then do a 100% discount, it would just make one item in that category free and accomplish exactly what you’re looking for.

Interesting, So your saying if I chose "Discount a Category" and select 100%. If they check out 2 items in that category in a single transaction, only one of the items will be discounted?

Yup, I believe that’s how it’s supposed to work.

Definitely test it out during hours that you’re closed, but it should be good!

Ok awesome! Well if that works square should for sure change that to "Discount One Item in a Specific Category" rather than just "Discount a Category". Thanks for the help!

I did test this and it does work. If I add 4 qualifying items to my cart only one receives the 100% discount. I can then select how many "Rewards" I want to redeem. Thank you so much for this insight!!! I cant believe I haven't been using this feature for the last couple years and its always been there😂

Bad news, Although this does work on our register. Our customers are now no longer able to redeem their rewards on our website. Am i missing something or does category discounts not work when redeeming online?

Ah drat, @kinoscoffee - I completely forgot about that limitation on square online. Yes that’s right, category based loyalty programs still do not work on Square Online.

Is there a reason that this has not been updated to work on Square online yet? Will we ever be able to use category rewards online?
