If I sell a square gift card, can that customer used it at different business that uses square proc?

I want to start selling gift cards and have asked my customers for their feedback. Most have asked if they were to purchase a gift card through my company can they use it with a different company as long as they have square processing. Can someone please help me find my answers?

No, the money goes to you upon purchase of the gift card, because the money is now yours it can only be spent at your company.

Gift cards are basically prepaid purchases, the buyer pays you and in return gets store credit for the amount paid.
