How do we integrate square processing into our custom application?

We are looking to integrate payments to our own application programmed in c# but have not found any way but less than acceptable work arounds. Does anyone have any experience with sort of thing? Sorry but we are trying to help make our Re-opening more covid19 friendly. Thanks for any and all help!
