I came up with a work around for this. Created a category for items I want to apply a coupon for. Put the items in there with a UPC that matched my coupon code. When something is in the category of coupons a $ amount or % is applied by default to be deducted. The only problem is that you have to move the item to the coupon location while you run the promotion for it to be removed from inventory correctly.

For example:

I have a Category of Coupon:

I created a Discount to be applied to items in category Coupon

I made an Item called Hotel (Name) Ad ( this ad gives couples 2 Free votives with a purchase)

The add runs in 4 hotels So my items are:

Hotel A - with UPC of Hotel A

Hotel B - with UPC of Hotel B

Hotel C - with UPC of Hotel C

Hotel D - with UPC of Hotel D

So when a customer comes in I scan the coupon (Item UPC)

Then with the use of automatically applying discount to an item or category the item is reduced.

So what happens almost instantly is:

Coupon is presented

I scan it

Reads as Hotel B

Square enters Hotel B charge of $2.98

Square then sees that item Hotel B gets auto discount of $2.98

Square applies Discount of $2.98

Total =       $0.00

By doing this I get new customers in for a small loss AND can track which Ad is working the best.

This took some time to figure out and since I do not track inventory on each votive but only by the dozen this is working for me.

This could work for a single Item but you would have to change it from the Category you have it in to a Coupon Category but I have not been able to figure out how to scan a coupon to take say 20% off the highest item automatically.

Hope this helps

Is there a way to create a printable barcode for coupons?

Say I want to include a coupon to be included as a bag stuffer at an event.
Instead of a coupon code that has to be manually entered for each sale, have a barcode that will apply the discount to the sale just by scanning the barcode.

Hello @LulusOnMain and thanks for your question. This is a feature that has been requested many times before. As a retail store owner I agree that this would be very helpful and efficient during the checkout process. However this is not currently available as a feature. Barcodes are used in the inventory system and are not tied to the discount or loyalty components in your Square Account. You can however generate a coupon "code" that can be printed on a paper coupon, and that code can be inputted into your checkout system to apply a discount.
