Use square reader app with our web app

Hello, I am a new developer who is trying to connect a square reader application to an existing web app. We are wondering if we can use Square App to process payments in the backend while using an existing web application in the front end. Is that possible? Or Can we use square service to process payments, if we want to do it ourselves without using the App?

My other option would be using the Square SDK, we tried and struggled for some reason, is there any tutorial video on how to do it on MAC?

Currently we would prefer option 1, but would like to know if there is a step by step videos!
