I had some problems with my mag stripe reader Saturday. It worked the first four times I used it, then would not work again. I am contemplating the purchase of a chip reader. My question is: does it have to be connected to the internet? Or will it work with the phone service (Verizon)? Some of the shows I do have poor internet service.

@Racerhba6 The chip/tap reader would connect to your phone via bluetooth. It however does require internet service to work. Only the swipe function can work in offline mode due to the encryption and nature of the chip/tap/dip. You can get a new mag stripe reader pretty cheap even at places like sams and best buy.
