A barcode scanner recognizes all kinds of barcode types. It's not nessicarily "3rd party", so much as a type of barcode. Step into an item's edit view on Square Register, and scan the barcode to store it as that item's unique UPC. So Square recognizes any barcode as an individual set of numbers (simple as that).

Hi, I have scanned the barcodes for each item but it seems like its having difficulty recognizing those skus and pulling up the coordinating item when I scan it to sell. Any ideas?

@AdvUrgent - Sorry to hear about the trouble! Would you mind sharing more details about exactly what is happening? Are the barcodes not working at all when you go to ring up a sale? What type of UPC code did you use?
