How do I enter a payment for a customer with their card on file without using the reader?

Can I use the Square.com website to enter a payment when I have the credit card on file and an authorization signed? Do I have to have a reader?

Square is a mobile device based service. You cannot enter sales information on a computer. I know this FAQ specifically refers to card payments, but the same is true for cash transactions.:

The ability to key in card information to process payments in your online Dashboard (from a laptop or desktop computer) isn’t available, but there are other options:

You can sell online by setting up a free Online Store. Learn how to create your Online Store with Square.
If you don’t need an Online Store, you can send a Square Invoice, or try one of our partners, Bigcommerce or Weebly, all of which help you accept payments online.

I teach piano lessons, so payments only come from repeat customers. How do I enter their card info so i can reuse it month to month as "card on file"? Then how do I process payments for cards on file?

Welcome to the Community!

It sounds like Square Invoices might be what you're looking for. With this feature, you'll be able to set up Auto Draft Recurring Invoices where your customers' Card on File is automatically charged every month and no action is needed on their end.
