If credit card has a chip, must enter card number manually or purchase a chip reader, correct?

Nope. If you just have the square stand swipe it as usual. Try to avoid hand typing cards in, it costs you more money . Always swipe when you can.

No, you can still swipe the card as you are currently doing however the liability shifts to you since you do not have a chip reader. I personally would advise you to get one as soon as possible. More than half of our daily credit cards are now "chip cards."

Thanks. I just picked up the Square Reader and I couldn't get my chip card to swipe. We are using it for our special event tonight at our church. Any suggestions on what I may be doing wrong.
