When I send out an email campaign I will get an "unsubscribe rate" on the email statistics page for that campaign. How do I know which customers unsubscribed? Does Square automatically remove them from that group? Do they get removed from the directory entirely? I want to make sure they are not receiving emails they don't want to receive, but I also don't want them completely removed from our directory. How do I view a customer's subscription status?

The ability to view if a customer has unsubscribed from emails is dependent on how that customer was added to your Directory. If they were automatically added to a smart group, you will not be able to see which particular customers opted out but if you added them manually you will be able to see their email subscription status by downloading your Customer Directory CSV. Here's how:

Visit the Customer Directory

Click on the Import/Export Button > Click "Export Customers"

Download the Customers CSV. The CSV will have a column named "Email Unsubscribed" which will show "TRUE" if a customer has unsubscribed from marketing emails.

For those customers who were automatically added, if they choose to unsubscribe Square will automatically remove them from your email list. Hope that information helps!

I had the same questions, and after doing the export I can see TRUE where a customer has unsubscribed.

I just want to make sure that if that is the case that the next time I run a campaign Square reads that information and will not send an email to that customer, yet the customer stays on the list.

In this case it is a member of an organization and I would like to follow up to see if there is an underlying issue why they have unsubscribed. If I can resolve the issue, is there a way to 'resubscribe' them? Thank you.

@RicheyOrchestra Yep! As long as the "Email Unsubscribed" column is label "True" then your customer will not receive any marketing emails. You customers can manage their email preferences right from their receipts by clicking “Manage preferences.”
