Pull names of customers who've made purchases by date?

@Questioner - Welcome to the Seller Community. We're so happy to have you!

As for your question, I did want to clarify a few things to get started. Square doesn't charge to utilize the Customer Directory feature. Using this feature, you can easily add customer profiles to your directory right from the Square app or Dashbaord, and then save them to your transaction free of charge. This will insure that every sale has a customer tied to it. You can read up more on this feature in our Support Center. You only pay for a subscription if you're interesting in using our marketing features.

As for locating customer names for transactions that you've already processed, this is a bit more tricky (especially if you haven't been using the directory up to this point). Square readers are sometimes able to capture customer name. If we were able to read this detail off the card, you would be able to see the customer name in the bottom corner of a receipt preview by selecting a sale from the transaction tab of the Square Dashboard. Sean, I have a small non-profit and we recently held our annual event. Are you saying there is no way for me to see the names of my attendees based on their sales? I thought that I would be able to capture the names of the people who swiped cards & thus didn't take a roll. My customer information says people are Reachable, but that names are Unknown.

Hey @rugbyguy - Unfortunately, if the customer's information wasn't added during your sale, it may not be available. It's entirely possible that the card reader was able to capture the name on the card, but this is not always guaranteed.

What about customers who purchased via our website? I was able to add Square to the site, and purchase with a credit card through it. But I am not seeing the name of the customer, even though the customer has to input their name for the payment. This info is critical for onlilne ticket sales!! Plus, the customer is not receiving a confirmation email, as promised by Square.

Hey @OSFriend, welcome to the seller community.

Sorry for the confusion—how was the payment processed? If you're selling tickets with the Square Online Store, you should be able to access the customer information from the online Square Dashboard > Orders tab.

If that doesn't clear things up, please reply here with a bit more information on what you're encountering, or get in touch with our Customer Success team. They'll be able to take a deeper dive into your settings and make sure this gets sorted out. Hope this helps get you in the right direction.

Hi Tom, Yes we are using the Square Online Store, but I dont see an Orders tab. Just Sales. Under Transactions I see the list of orders, but when you click on the Order, it tells me the amount, date, through our web site, but Paid for by Unknown Name.

Hmm—that does sound strange.😕 You should be able to see the name of the person associated with the order from there. I'd suggest touching base with our Customer Success team directly. They'll be able to investigate further.

I also would like to know who is purchasing gift cards from my marketing email and website. I got two deposits today and the amounts are slightly different which is a bit odd since I am running a $5 off special of my regular rate of $72 so both should be the same amount but one is $64.76 and the other is $67.10. I would like to know who is purchasing gift certificates and how the prices are different, or if one was an in store purchase that I am forgetting about? Tracking Gift Certificates in my profession is very important because there is a lot of fraud that happens in the massage industry. I love the convenience of taking credit, and for the most part Square is great to use, but with all the updates on my tablet constantly I would think that something as easy to find as a list of purchasers wouldn't be such a big headache to locate or have available. Most businesses want to know who their customers are. We can't always be there to collect names especially when options are allowed to have people access payment without even being on location. The website is hard to navigate, and is inconsistent across devices. If I click on deposits or transactions sometimes information looks differently and then I can't remember how I got to a page just the time before, and if I click on information from an email it will take me to the website but I won't know how to find that link when I am on the website itself. Venting a little, sorry. I just wish this was easier to find what I am looking for.

Hello @DLC! First things first, if your deposit total is less than expected you should take a look at the Deposits Report. From this report you can see exactly which payments were included in your deposit.This Support Center article has the steps to view your Deposits Report and match deposits to sales from the Point of Sale app or from your online Square Dashbaord.

Second, to see who purchased a Gift Card navigate to the Transactions section of your online Square Dashboard. Click Export in the upper right to download the Transactions CSV report, and you'll see a column for 'Gift Card Sales' and a separte column for 'Customer Name'.

As for sales that are attributed to a marketing campaign, you can see the total dollar amount of attributable sales and purchases when you click on a completed campaign in the Marketing section of your Dashboard. But I'm afraid there isn't a way to see a list of specific transactions attributed to that campaign, but I agree that would be very useful!
