how can i color code the categories on my point of sale screen.

i am trying to color code the categories on my point of sale screen. my items are color coded, but i cant figure out how to color code the categories so each square on my point of sale screen is a different color.

Hi @skinnybuddha, this is a common request but at this time we cannot color code the Categories, only the Items in the Category. We have requested from Square to be able to color code the Category and/or add a picture to the Category. Hold tight, Square always listens to our requests and will priortize when it may happen.

Do I have to then code code each item in the category? Say I have 100 items in the category of snacks, I have to go and color code each item individually? That seems like a lot of work!!!

Hello @MakSalonSpa and @skinnybuddha!

I'm happy to confirm that we now have the ability to choose a color for your categories! Currently you can designate a color from the Square Point of Sale App.

Select Items from the menu in the app. Then click Categories and tap on the one you want to edit. From here you will see Edit Category at the top of your screen. Tap the tile to bring up the color options!

No they will automatically be the same color as you chose for the Category

Hello @degreenwood1 , good to see you post again! At the moment, we have a color system to help differentiate your staff members in Square Appointments, but we don’t have a way to color code services or products.

Are you referring to when you sign onto the dashboard v.s. the Appointments app?

The colors for the categories don't match the color choices for the items. Does that sound right, or am I looking in the wrong place. Thanks!

That is the process I used, but this color selection is different than the color selection for items. For example, the orange color is missing from the categories pallette.

That is interesting @AnnieCVSMT1, when I look at my Point of Sale app for "items" and "categories," the colors are showing the same for me.

Is the app up to date?

Hi there! Thanks for the follow-up. I colorized our items (services) from my laptop, where there are more color options available. This is in the same function where you can attach a picture to an item / service. I can't seem to figure out how to colorize the categories from my laptop, though. When I open up the app to colorize the categories, I see the grid you posted which has a few fewer colors than I see on my laptop for the services. Not a big deal, just seemed inconsistent.

Thanks for patience @AnnieCVSMT1 while I looked into this.

Colorizing Categories from Dashboard is a Feature Request at this time they can only be colorized via Item Grid .

Our team works hard to maintain functionality across our platforms, but there are certain limitations that delay or restrict some functions.

The category colorization is achieved via the Edit Category or Edit Item grid flow which doesn't exist on the Dashboard.
