How do I add another phone to an existing reader?

I bought a new smartphone and want to continue to use the existing phone strictly for credit card processing for the time being. The battery in the old phone (a HTC desire 626) is failing, and I'm usure if the phone will contiue to work when the battery does fail. I'd like to connect my new phone (a LG V20), but was unable to do so when I tried after downloading the Square application. Is it possible to have 2 phones connect to the same reader? If so, how do I do this?

I assume you are talking about the Bluetooth contactless Chip reader. The reader will only pair to one phone at a time.
