Do you need to add items to Square?

Greetings

I have set up a square account and was wondering the following:

Since I have a ecommerce site do I still need to add the items into square for a customer to make a purchase?

My business model is SSL shopping cart and phone orders.

I like feature of being able to manual key in a credit card order as this procedure saves many credits or possible charge backs when special items or limited items run out of stock.

What ecommerce product are you using? If you are just using Square as a payment gateway then no you don't have to enter your items. If your ecommerce offers two way sync then you may. If you want to take advantage of the two way sync.

I am using ZenCart, I do have the square API but for now this will work perfectly as a gateway.

I'm currently upgrading everything and once that is finished I will see how the API works. I would imagine the API works in a similar fashion as PayPal?
