I currently run a small cafe (40 seats.) We are looking at purchasing a retail store nearby. This retail store currently uses an old school cash register and still uses a "price gun" to label product with prices stuck on the side. Nearly all of the product sold is labeled with bar codes as it is primarily supplied by national distributors of products that are nationally available. This retail location we are hoping to aquire is very, very busy in short bursts. Now that you have the basic background, here is my question.

Should I try to use square for inventory tracking (which could save a ton on labor) and includes probably about 350 different products that are purchased and delivered weekly?

Can anyone tell me the exact steps for making a transaction in a retail setting from beginning to end using a bar code scanner... (I saw a "how to" video that showed the cashier having to click the search button before scanning.. is that actually the case? and if so, is it just once per transaction or for every item scanned?)

Do you use square for your current business? If you do it is the same but instead of selecting the products from the item grid you just scan them. All you have to do is Scan, once all items are scanned finish the sale. With a compatible scanner setup correctly you don't have to do anything but scan. We use the socket bluetooth scanner with our fireworks stand and it is fast and easy.
