Refunding sales tax

I called my state Sales Tax help line, they told me I needed to be collecting sales tax for our weekly comedy shows. So I did for a while. Then someone told me I absolutely did NOT need to be collecting sales tax, so I called the Help line back and they confirmed it. I looked around at some other theatres and realized they aren't charging it either... So I've been collecting sales tax that I didn't need to.

I assume my only option here is to file that money to the state, despite the fact that I didn't need to collect it in the first place?

This is definitely something to talk to a tax professional about, your accountant or someone. there are ways to file corrections to sales tax, and depending on how long ago the transactions were you can refund the sales tax back. But definitely, talk to someone who knows this in your state as you don't want problems with the department of revenue.
