Can clients store their card on file without having a transaction occurring first?

Im trying to set up Registration for an auction using our square acount. We need clients to register and save their card info and emails for check out. Can they register their cards without having to have an inital transaction? go to our store to purchase their auction tickets and from there store card on file??

when creating a customer you can add a card on file without making a purchase.
