Loyalty Program - does customer need to make a purchase to use reward?

We recently set up the loyalty program and I have a question about redemtion. When a customer comes in with the code for redemtion, it seems that they need to make a purchase in order to use it. Example: one of the things we offer is a free lg. cookie after 10 purchases. I make the 10th purchase and want to redeem for a cookie after my meal, but I don't want to make another purchase right now....how do you redeem? Thanks for helping.

Hello @Campuscafe! There is no purchase necessary for redeeming rewards, but you will have to create a transaction and include the cookie.

In your scenario the transaction amount should be zero. So you will have to select other payment to record the sale in the system so their reward code can't be used again. This will also ensure your inventory count is correct!
