How can I deduct a deposit from my customers invoice?

I would like to send a non-taxable deposit invoice to my customers, then apply that to the actual invoice once paid. However I still need to have the full tax amount on the invoice. Is this possible?

currently, there is not a way to take deposits. you can take the deposit and make a note on the invoice that the item was $1,000 minus $200 deposit.

There are many businesses that need to take customer deposits like ours in order to function. Square should help us figure this out. Sales Tax is not applied properly if we do what you are suggesting and categorization of items fails. Please help us make money for ourselves and Square.
